February 2017 Gardening Tips
February can be a cold wet month but there is still essential jobs to be done! Spring is approaching and we need to get ready for the coming season. The light and temperature is increasing and were starting to see the first spring bulbs appear. Soon parks and gardens across theUK will be covered with beautifully white snowdrops.
So what is there to do in at this time of year? One thing that has become increasing popular amongst new build gardens is ornamental grasses. Deciduous grasses need to be cut back and put on the compost. Evergreen grasses need to be thinned out and dead grass removed. You can keep evergreen grasses tidy by running your fingers through the grass, slowly raking the dead grass out by hand.
If you have a wisteria it’s a good idea to keep it under control. Now is the time of year to tame those wonderful climbers. Cut back those stringy green shoots to keep it tidy ready for spring. For more information see the RHS website.
